January 22 voice update (with audio)

Posted by Rob H on January 22, 2014

Well, a lot has happened since my last post. My voice was on its way to recovery and right around the January 8 mark, my voice was almost back to normal. I’d say about 70-75% back. I still had no range high or low but my regular tone was pretty decent.

Then, I got some weird virus in my throat around January 9. It started as a little scratchy sore throat, and developed into a little more severe sore throat, then turned into an annoying tickle cough, and finally went away around January 17. The weird thing along this whole timeframe was that it stayed in my throat the whole time. Normally, a cold will move from the nasal area to the throat, then chest, or the other way around. Well this funny virus stayed in my throat for the entire duration, never did I get a runny/stuffy nose, or anything up in my head.

Unfortunately what this virus did do is zap my voice. From about January 13-January 16, about 4 days, I had virtually no voice. I couldn’t project, I couldn’t be heard in noisy environments, and every one of those days I woke up with no voice at all. So it really did a number on my voice. I actually thought it may have been laryngitis but since I didn’t end up going to a doctor, I’ll never really know.

But it did go away. Finally.

Now I’m left with a bit of a weaker voice than I started with on January 8. Whereas my voice was around 70-75% back at that point in time, it’s now only 65-70% and I’m left wondering if this is as good as it gets. That virus really complicated matters because if my voice doesn’t improve any more, or if I have a shorter benefit period, I won’t know if it’s because of the virus or because of the lower dosage of Botox.

I’ll have to keep updating this blog and see how it goes. The good news is, I have had very little side effects. Barely any choking on liquids, and no difficulty swallowing at all.

Here below is my voice sample taken today!
